Announcement of the new guide for authors

Announcement of the change to open access and the associated revision of the submission rules

In the Prime Minister's Basic Policy for the Realisation of Immediate Open Access to Academic Papers, issued in February 2024, it was decided to implement immediate open access to publicly funded academic papers, publish academic papers and evidence data in institutional repositories and other information platforms, and develop and enhance platforms for the dissemination of research results. The decision was made to improve and enhance the platform for the dissemination of research results. The adoption of open access (OA) for Asian Journal of Occupational Therapy (AsJOT) is in line with this current trend, and the submission rules will be revised to accommodate this change.

The new submission rules will apply to new submissions from 15 April 2025 onwards.

The main changes are as follows

1. Copyright

The copyright of published articles belongs to all authors and the secondary use rights are held by the Japanese Association of Occupational Therapists(JAOT), which publishes AsJOT. ‘AsJOT’ is published under the CC BY 4.0 licence that allows free use under certain conditions.

The main condition of this licence is that the author's credit (name, title of the work, etc.) is indicated and, of course, modification as well as secondary use for commercial purposes is permitted.

  2. Agreement on submission, publication fees and publication rights

The publication fee will be free of charge if the first author is a member of JAOT, and a fee will be charged if the first author is not a member (for details, see the journal submission rules). In addition, the responsible author must sign and submit a 'License Agreement for Publication Rights’ to JAOT in order to permit JAOT to publish the article.

Making journals open access is an important step towards knowledge sharing and development. Through the journal, we hope that cutting-edge knowledge about occupational therapy will further expand and contribute to practice and research activities in the field. We look forward to your understanding and cooperation.
